Installing the Server software
LANBak Server can be installed on any PC running either Windows NT4 (SP6),
2000, XP, or 2003 Microsoft operating systems.
When choosing an appropriate computer to become a LANBak Server it is important
to consider where the backed-up data set will reside. Typically this will
either be an internal hard drive or a removable, external hard drive (USB2 only
- USB1 is not supported).
NOTE: If you are using LANBak as your sole backup strategy, it
is recommended that you use at least 2 removable hard drives for storage of
your backup data (rotating hard-drives, with at least 1 kept off-site similar
to a traditional tape backup regime is highly recommended).
Before you begin
Before you install the Server software you must perform the following steps:
-
Choose an appropriate computer to become your LANBak Server (see notes above).
-
Check that the machine meets the minimum requirements
for LANBak Server.
-
Ensure you have the correct 'Product Key' and 'License Key' to use during the
install process (full product only) . You must use the
same product key for all installed instances of LANBak server on your network.
Licensing
LANBak Server is licensed on a per-Server basis. Additionally, each
connecting client computer must also be licenesed. The 'License Key'
supplied when the product was purchased relates to the number of concurrent
client connections that can be made to the Server (the number of computers that
can back their data up to the server or use LANBak services generally on the
network).
Additional licenses can be purchased for both Server and Clients by contacting
sales@flux2fusion.com or calling +44 (0)1993 772263.
Installing LANBak Server
To install the Server software perform the following steps:
-
Run the LANBakServer20WebSetup.exe file the start the setup process.
-
Wait for 3rd-party components to be downloaded and installed. LANBak
requires the Microsoft .NET framework v1.1 to be installed. If this

installed automatically.
-
After the .NET framework has been installed, please read the License Agreement
shown. Click 'Yes' if you agree with the license statement.
-
When prompted, enter your username, company name (if applicable) and your
LANBak 'Product Key' assigned when you purchased the software (not applicable
to demo versions). Here you can also choose whether to install the system
for use by all users of the computer or just yourself (this option only applies
to preview/restore and on-demand backup options available in the UI).
Click 'Next' once you have finished with this screen.
-
Now enter your 'License Key' (full product only). Click 'Next'.
-
Next, choose a different location to the suggested install folder if you
wish. Click 'Next'.
-
Check the current install settings then click 'Next' to start installing the
files. Setup will complete in a few seconds.
-
If setup completes successfully, you will be prompted to view the readme file
and also to configure and start the LANBak Server system using the LANBak
Server Manager program. Clicking finish will start Server Manager.
