Short Story |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Squared is a game, which I've always very liked to play. Originally I played this game on a small sheet of squared paper during boring lessons, etc... So, when I was completely bored with a subject of lecture, I was just drawing a 10x10 grid and writing numbers into squares. I don't even know the original name of this game, but it's not so important... The fact is that it is totally addictive! I was not able to stop until I heard the bell ringing for a brake. One day I sat in front of my computer and decided to write Squared. It was meant to be a small programming excercise for me, because I had too much spare time... The game was written within 2 hours, but all the improvements (changing user interface, details, creating this help file, cleaning up the source code) took me about 4 evenings. You may say it's not much for a good game but I'm quite satisfied with the result... |

Game Rules |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1. The "game board" is a sheet of squared paper. It has columns and rows. Number of columns and rows depends on the game level.
2. The point of Squared
is to fill in all squares in the with numbers (starting from 1 to X, where
X is the total number of squares). 3. You fill in a square
by clicking on it. 4. When moving a mouse over a square you can see its color:
5. The valid move is only when the square which you want to click is "1-column and 2-rows" or "2-columns and 1-row" away from previous filled square. Don't get it? Look at point 6 ;)) 6. It's exactly like in chess... The current number is for example "3" (in a blue square). To set "4" you need to feel like moving a knight from the blue square to another square. The "another square" will then be marked as "4"... Still not too precise? Look at the point below: 7. The valid moves
described in a very, very simple way :) The figure below shows all
possible moves from a blue square
8. I hope that you understand the rules at this point. If not, try playing the game and you'll learn them :) 9. Go ahead. Try different grid sizes, try asymetric ones (rectangle-shaped grids) but note that not all grids can be filled in completely... 10. Try to avoid blocking
yourself. Sometimes you get blocked because you have no valid move possible
to make. |

System Requirements |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Squared is designed to run on Microsoft Windows 98 / Me / 2000 / XP / NT, but was tested only on Windows 98 and XP. It requres an ordinary 200MHz processor and about 1 MB of disk space. You shouldn't have any problem with running the game with other Windows versions, because it does not contain complicated programming methods and stuff. It means no DirectX or OpenGL support and so on... Anyway, if something goes wrong and you cannot execute Squared please let me know. |
