Single File Processor
General Overview
There are times when the file system has received physical damage and it becomes impossible to write to the partition table, boot record, or FAT.
In the event that this happens an actual recovery of the file system is impossible. So what happens to all the files that are on the system that have taken hours to create? Some of which may be unreplaceable!
Drive Master 2000 has a remedy. To pull those files off and place them on a safe, good drive the Single File Processor (SFP) is the answer. The SFP will scan the damaged file system, and create a list of files that you may pick and choose from.
Once chosen the files will be copied to the new drive in a directory where you can do with them what you want.
Note:The SFP must have a two physical drives in the system.
Drive master 2000 will not copy files to the same damaged drive
File Scan Template
There are many time that a list of the entire logical drive is not necessary. There may be only a few files that may need to be retrieved. Drive Master 2000 offers the flexibility and ease of choose just those files that are important through a file mask template.
By using the template it is easy to mask out certain files and include certain files in the list creation.
For example, if only the DOC files are important then the template would look like this *.DOC.
If all DOC files beginning with the letter A are important then A*.DOC would be used.
There times when the files are numbered so a '?' mark may be used for instance TITLE???.* will give you all files starting with the word TITLE.
As you can see this will greatly reduce the size of the list that will be created. The default for the mask is: *.* (or all files)
Build List
This function is self explanatory. When used this function will scan the current logical drive, displayed in the lower left hand corner, for all file names that match the scan mask template. This function may take several minutes depending upon the size of the drive.
Once completed a list of all found file names matching the scan mask template criteria will be displayed.
Marking/Unmarking files for copy
So that Drive Master 2000 will be aware of what files to copy there are two ways to mark/unmark files. Files may be marked one at a time, or with the Mark All Files button.
The list is color coded so that at a glance it is easy to determine which files are marked.
Black Unmarked
Red Marked
Blue Current file selection
Keys for marking single files
'M' to mark a file
'U' to unmark a file
Using the Mark All Files button will mark the entire file list for copy. Pressing the button again will unmark the file list.
In the lower right hand corner of this example is displayed the total bytes marked for copy. Make sure that this amount does not exceed the size of the largest logical drive on the second physical drive.
(For example: you can't copy 20 megs of data to a 10 meg drive)
Copy Files
Once again this function is self evident, however there are some things that need to be discussed
Two physical drives:
There must be at least two physical drives in the system that is going to do the copy.
Logical drive choice:
Drive Master 2000 chooses the destination drive in order to ensure that the data is going to a safe place. The data is also placed in a directory named "DMASTER.DAT" in the root directory of the destination drive.
In the figure above, the field 'Dest' is where the files will be copied. Make note of it before exiting Drive Master 2000.
Logical drive size:
Make sure that the destination physical drive has a large enough logical drive to receive all the marked files from the damaged drive.
