To restore the registry back anytime go to where you saved the registry file and double click on it. Click Yes to confirm. You can re-backup the registry every time you do a successful change in it and replace the old registry file.
Installing new prgrams is also considered a change in the registry. It is recommended to backup your registry before installing any new program. If you installed your program successfully you should re-backup the Registry to save the modified settings.
