Remove and Replace Fan Tray Assembly (DSP)

  1. Before starting this service action enable the reserve cabinet(s) function.

    a) Reserve the cabinet(s) for maintenance.

    b) Enter a description of the service action (i.e. replacing fan tray assembly).

    c) Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.

    d) Select the Reserve button.

    e) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they log in.

  2. Observe all ESD precautions.

  3. From the front of the cabinet check the fan tray assembly LEDS to determine if the fan is in a failed state.

    a) If the fan power LED (Green) is On and the fan attention LED (Amber) is Off,the fan has power applied and is in normal operation.

    b) If the fan power LED (Green) is On and the fan attention LED (Amber) is On, there is a failure of one or both fan units.

    c) If the fan power LED (Green) is Off and the fan attention LED (Amber) is Off, no power is applied to the unit or power has failed.

  4. Verify that the fan tray assembly is ready to remove: Verify fan tray assembly.

    a) The Show Chassis screen State should be "failed".

  5. Loosen the captive screw holding the fan tray assembly in place. A smaller Phillips screw driver is required then is used elsewhere in the cabinet to loosen the screw.

    a) View the fan tray assembly illustration.

  6. Hold the handle on the front of the fan tray assembly and pull the assembly partially out of it's slot to verify that both fans have stopped rotating before completely removing it from the chassis.

    WARNING: If the fans are still rotating be careful not to place you fingers into the fan tray assembly.

    Important Note: Do not leave the removed fan tray assembly out of the chassis for more one (1) to two (2) minutes. A longer period of time may cause an over temperature condition resulting in cards powering off.

  7. Insert the new fan tray assembly until it connects with the mid-plane chassis.

  8. Secure the fan tray assembly by tightening the captive screw.

  9. The Fan Power LED (Green) indicator should now be On.

  10. Verify that the fan tray state is "On": Verify fan tray assembly..

    a) The Show Chassis screen State should be "On".

  11. After this sevice action has been completed all Alarms will need to be deleted: Delete Alarms.

    a) From the left side of the screen select the "check mark" box to select all alarms.

    b) Select the Delete button to delete all of the alarms.

    Note: Be sure to delete any associated alarms from all other monitoring applications.

  12. Disable the reserve cabinet(s) function.

    a) Release the cabinet(s).

    b) Select the Release button.
