Adding Storage Arrays (2x2)

    Note: This service activity requires two people to install the new array/tray chassis in the cabinet frame. The tray chassis can weigh up to 90 Lbs. when fully populated.

  1. Before starting this service action enable the reserve cabinet(s) function.

    a) Reserve the cabinet(s) for maintenance.

    b) Enter a description of the service action (i.e. adding a 2x2 array).

    c) Select the estimated amount of time of the service action from the pull-down.

    d) Select the Reserve Cabinet(s) button.

    e) Other users will be alerted that this service action is in progress when they log in.

  2. Observe all ESD precautions.

  3. Remove the tray from the shipping container.

  4. Attach the side rails to the tray using eight screws per rail.

  5. From the front of the cabinet, remove the appropriate number of filler panels to accomodate the new tray.

  6. Align the tray rails with the rails inside the cabinet and push the tray into the cabinet.

  7. Install the four screws that secure the tray to the front of the cabinet frame.

  8. Attach the trim strips to the cabinet frame.

  9. From the rear, insert the four screws that secure the tray to the side rails in the rear of the cabinet.

  10. Repeat steps 3 through 9 for the second tray.

  11. Insert the two loop card interconnect cables between the two trays. Using the right side connector of the loop card on the bottom tray and the left side connector of the loop card of the upper tray.

  12. Route the Ethernet cable through the keepers.

  13. Insert the Ethernet cable in the controller card.

  14. Insert the fiber optic cable in the controller card.


Configuring the new arrays.

  1. The MAC address for the new array will need to be added: Add MAC address.

    a) From the Ethers screen, enter the MAC address in the appropriate field for the corresponding Array.

    b) At the bottom or the top of the screen select the Save button.

  2. Insert the power and cooling unit cables for both trays.

    Note: Make sure the power switch is in the Off position (-) before connecting the power cables.

  3. Turn on the power switches for the power and cooling units for all trays in that array. Allow 3-5 minutes for the array to complete the boot cycle.

  4. After the new array has successfully booted the array must be rebooted one more time to reset the array configuration information.

    IMPORTANT NOTE: Before proceeding with this procedure be sure that you are entering the correct array name. If the wrong array name is entered a customer outage and data loss could occur.

    a) Reset array configuration information.

    b) Enter the correct name of the new array into the array field (i.e. array01).

    c) Enter the correct password for the new array into the password field.

    d) Select the Boot button to begin the boot process.

    Note: The boot process will take 3-5 minutes.

  5. The progress of the reset can be monitored: Monitor job.

    a) Under the Job Details column select the Details link for the array boot job.

  6. A new inventory will need to be created for the new array: Generate new inventory.

    a) From the New Inventory screen, select the Generate button from the right side of the screen.

    b) After the new inventory has been generated, select the Save button from the right side of the screen.

  7. The agent will now need to be run: Run the Agent.

    a) From the left side of the screen select "Yes" for All Devices.

    b) From the right side of the screen select the Run button.

  8. Verify the FRU status in the new array: Verify trays

    a) The FRU Stat Status-State should now be "ready-enabled" for all FRUs.

  9. A new Topology Snapshot will need to be created for the new array: Create new Topology Snapshot.

    a) From the drop down box on the left side of the screen select Archive Current Toplogy.

  10. Disable the reserve cabinet(s) function.

    a) Release the cabinet(s).

    b) Select the Release button from the right side of the screen.

  11. The revision level of the new array must be verified: Verify revision levels.

    a) Select the Generate Upgrade Report button from the Revision Analysis screen.

    b) Select the OK button in the pop-up screen.

    c) From the Patch table check the appropriate box on the left and then select the Apply button to apply the required patches.
