Flux2Fusion LANBak Server 2.0

Introduction

LANBak Server is part of the LANBak Network Backup system from Flux2Fusion Software.  LANBak Server is the component that is responsible for providing backup storage space and services for client computers on the network.  Data is backed-up onto a local fixed or removable (USB2 only) hard drive on the 'Server' computer.

LANBak Server can be installed on both servers and workstations on the network.  The software does not differentiate between true 'server' or 'workstation' operating system flavours (such as Window 2000 Server and Windows 2000).  Any computer on the network running either Windows NT4 (SP6), 2000, XP, or 2003 Microsoft operating systems can be configured to become a LANBak Server.

For small to medium sized networks (<= 30 machines) a single machine configured as a LANBak Server is normally sufficient (the exact number of Clients a LANBak Server can support depends on the volume of data being backed up< /EM> ).  Multiple servers can be configured to co-exist on the same network, providing a distributed storage space.  If you intend to install multiple LANBak Servers, please contact lanbak@flux2fusion.com or call +44 (0)1993 772263 for help and information.  Please note, you must purchase a server license for each server installed on your network.

Both LANBak Server and LANBak Client components can be installed on the same machine - a typical arrangement when the chosen 'server' machine is the network file server (providing backup space) and where folders on the server itself are to be backed up.

Features

  • Automatic maintenance of the backup set - LANBak server discards files in the backup set when disk space limitations are reached.  The system will first discard any 'previous version' files before discarding primary backups (the last remaining copy of a file).
  • EMail Status notifications - Status Notifications (such as primary file discard events) are raised via e-mail.  Multiple recipients can be configured.
  • Distributed operation when multiple LANBak Servers co-exist - Any number of LANBak Servers can be installed to co-exist on a single network.  'Client' computers choose a primary server to back up to dependent on current disk space (Clients always backup to the same 'Server' machine once that Server has been selected).
  • Peer-to-Peer operation - No need to open file shares etc.  Peer-to-Peer, self-discovery architecture means that system setup is automatic (some configuration may apply on multi-server networks, depending on deployment requirements).
  • Fully encrypted and compressed backup data - All backup data is encrypted and compressed at the 'Client' end before transmission to the Server.  The backed-up data is useless without the LANBak Software and associated Product Key to decrypt it.
  • Multi-version backups - LANBak Server can be configured to maintain up to 10 previous versions of each file.  New versions of files are only backed up as and when required.
