MICR Font
Advantage Package Features & Specifications
|
The MICR E13B font is a special font that is used on bank
checks and drafts in the United States, Canada, Puerto
Rico, Panama, UK, and a few other countries to print MICR
characters for magnetic recognition and optical character
recognition systems. The MICR E13B font contains ten
specially designed numeric characters 0 through 9, and
the four special symbols: transit, amount, on-us, and
dash. The MICR CMC-7 font is a special font that is used
on bank checks in Mexico, France, Spain and most Spanish
speaking countries. For information about the CMC-7 font,
visit the
CMC-7 MICR Font Site.
- Advanced precise design - The font named IDAutomationMICR was created
to precisely match each of the printer's pixels when printing at 300 dpi or
300 dpi multiple above that. This precise font pixel mapping makes use of our
patent pending font technology. Using this precise font, it should no longer
be necessary to calibrate the font to the printer or use different fonts on different printers,
unless the printer is out of alignment. For printers that are out of alignment,
additional fonts are
provided (in the Additional Fonts folder) with a calibration tool.
- Security Fonts included - these unique fonts allow a more
secure method of printing names and amounts that help reduce forgery on
bank checks. For more information, please visit IDAutomation's
Security Fonts
web page.
-
Created from ANSI and ISO specifications - IDAutomation's MICR E13B fonts were created according to
ISO 1004:1995 and meet the ANSI X9.27-1995 specification for MICR E13B. Because
they were created from the ISO specification, the fonts meet the E13-B
specification for other countries as well such as Australian APCA Pub 3.3 and
Canadian Payments Association Standard 006 Specification for MICR-Encoded
Cheques. These fonts
have been in use since 1998 in various check printing software
programs and have been proven to
pass the ABA banking standards in the USA for bank checks
and paper based drafts. The IDAutomation MICR fonts have also been tested on several MICR readers
and sorters including the UNISYS DP500 and the IBM 3890.
-
Bank
Check Design and Printing Software Included - With the 2006 release of this
product, IDAutomation now provides software that can be used to easily design and print
bank checks in Windows. The software supports importing of graphic images for
signatures and logos and has many powerful features such as VB
scripting and database connectivity to CSV files, Excel, Access, Oracle and SQL
Server. For more information, view the
Bank Check Design and Printing
Application
user manual.
- MICR Print Specifications Included - These specifications are a
summary of the placement requirements obtained from the ABA (American Banker's
Association).
- Visual Basic source code - IDAutomation includes Visual Basic 6 source code with
the order. The VB source
code has been extracted from a working check printing application and should give
ideas and guidance
for automated methods of printing bank checks using IDAutomation's MICR E-13B font.
- Compatible with Oracle eBusiness Suite and Peachtree - Some accounting packages (such as
Peachtree Complete Accounting version 8 or greater) allow the use of IDAutomation's MICR fonts on custom check forms. If
an accounting package has this capability, MICR fonts can save on check
printing and streamline the check printing process.
- Embedding support - The embedding support of IDAutomation's MICR fonts enables embedding in special PDF
document applications such as Adobe Writer, Distiller, PDF Lib and FOP TTF
Reader. This level of embedding also supports creation of OpenType and
TrueDoc fonts for web pages.

The MICR font should be printed at 12
points with a high quality 300 DPI or greater resolution printer. To create the correct output for the font, you will need to choose the font
in your application and type in the corresponding letter:

To install the package in Windows, run the INSTALL.EXE setup utility.
This utility will install the standard MICR fonts, Security fonts and the Check
Design Application. If it is determined by the Calibration Tool that other fonts
are needed, these may be manually installed from the Additional Fonts folder.
The following describes how to manually install the MICR font in Windows:
- Click on Start, select settings and click on Control
Panel.
- Click on Fonts, click on File in the main tool bar, and select Install New Font.
- Locate the font that needs to be installed.
- The MICR font will appear and look like this: font name
(true type) - select the appropriate font and Click on OK.
- Click Start and choose to shut down and restart the computer.
- The font should be active after the computer restarts.
Installing the fonts on Macintosh OS X:
- Drag or copy and paste the TrueType font file(s) ending in TTF
to the Library/Fonts folder.
- To activate the fonts, restart the application - some applications may
require you to restart the computer.
- The font should now be active in the font menu of your application.
To install the TrueType font on the
Classic Macintosh (OS 7.1 - OS 9):
- Download and install Stuffit Expander on your Macintosh if you do not have
an expander utility that can open ZIP files and decode MacBinary files.
- Open the ZIP distribution file that contains the fonts by dragging the ZIP file
on the Stuffit Expander icon. The font files will be extracted from the ZIP
distribution file and will appear in a subfolder of the folder you placed
the ZIP file in. Open this subfolder to view the font files. At this
point, you may want to view the documentation supplied with the font files.
To do so just drag the file "readme.html" to the Netscape or
Internet Explorer icon.
- Now we must decode the files from MacBinary format. Drag the font files
that you wish to use that
end with "mtt" to the Stuffit Expander icon.
- Drag the decoded font files to the System - Fonts
folder.
- Restart the application you wish to use the font with.
- The font will be active in the font menu of your application.
