The control for this operation is on the Windows Desktop. The soundboard should be set up before any attempt to create playlists. Most soundboard installations do not set the volume controls to basic levels and do not set up input for the microphone. To set up the soundboard, we must load the MIXER control for the soundboard. Most of the time, the following procedure works fine.
The mixer controls should now be showing. The controls vary from soundboard-to-soundboard but the basic controls are common. Four main ccontrols should be tested and set:
Try setting each control at midpoint and playing an applicable selection. Adjust the control for best listening levels. (The speaker control will adjust the overall volume of the soundboard - set the other three, first.) If you are using the "line out" from the back of the soundboard to the phones (the preferred setup), adjust the "line" control on the mixer to midpoint. Remember this control when the volume level is tested over the telephone - it may need to be re-set. Additionally, if the microphone control is not showing, it must be activated. To do this, look for a menu on the Mixer. The Microphone normally can be activated through an "option" listing. (Consult the documentation that came with your soundboard, or the manufacturer.) The microphone should be muted (turned off) when it is not being used. It can pick up extraneous noises and transmit them to the music-on-hold circuit. Another noteworthy item: Turn off all other "sound" in Windows - it will be heard by the callers on hold. This includes "themes", "sound schemes", sounds in screensavers, etc. |
